Advocates celebrate new powers by oversight bodies to impose financial penalties on telecom companies that break the rules

Following years-long campaign, CRTC is now empowered to levy financial penalties against telecom providers who mistreat customers

Tabish continued, “Together with measures such as the Wireless Code of Conduct, these new powers are a huge win for Canadians, and a significant step toward reining in our telecom giants. Now we’re looking for assurances from the CRTC that these fines will be both significant enough to deter bad actors and utilized in current cases such as Bell being accused of marking up the cost of competing online services by 800%. As we’ve seen with Shaw’s recent move to raise prices and slow services, we need action to fix our broken telecom market."

Canadians are calling for more choice, lower prices, and better telecom service at UnblockCanada.ca
