Community-led rallies taking place in Ottawa and across Canada on Saturday as Senate prepares for crucial final vote on Bill C-51

Canadians will converge on Ottawa from across the country to protest the reckless, dangerous, and irresponsible legislation about to be voted on by the Senate

Christopher Lambe, co-organizer of Saturday’s National Convergence in Ottawa, said: “We thought it would be a good idea to call people to gather in Ottawa where the final decision on this dangerous bill would be made. Together with thousands of other Canadian residents we will gather on the steps of Parliament and affirm our opposition to this dangerous bill while promoting a Canada that is not driven by fear, but by unity. Whatever happens to Bill C-51 in Senate, opposition to it will not go away, and we will press on together united across Canada until this broken legislation is off the table.”

OpenMedia’s privacy campaigner David Christopher said: “The past few months have been incredible. What started as a small group of people concerned about this Bill has grown into one of the largest campaigns in Canadian history. This is the most intrusive spying Bill ever proposed in Canada and it’s crucial that people take to the streets on Saturday to send the government a message they can’t ignore. We’ll keep this fight up for as long as it takes to overturn this reckless, dangerous, and irresponsible legislation.”

The Senate is expected to take its final vote on Bill C-51 next week. 234,120 people have now spoken out at StopC51.ca
