Thank you for speaking out and telling the CRTC: Put people before Big Telecom!
We submitted over 14,000 voices to the government in support of a new policy direction for the CRTC that puts people first. Thank you for speaking out — this could be the beginning of a new era for Canada’s telecom market!
Yesterday the OpenMedia community accomplished a milestone that could be the beginning of a fundamental change in our telecom market — a change that puts customers interests over Big Telecom’s profits.
We submitted over 14,000 voices to the government in support of a new policy direction for the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC). The new policy direction’s focus is to “promote competition, affordability, consumer interests and innovation”, unlike the previous direction from 2006, which told the CRTC to maximize its reliance on market forces.
The old direction didn’t serve us well, which is why we continue to pay some of the highest prices for our Internet and mobile services. So, needless to say, it’s time for a big change — and this is our best chance to bring that about.
A new policy direction that puts consumers first in every CRTC decision is exactly what we need to address the uncompetitive and unaffordable nature of our market. But without public support for this new policy direction, it doesn’t stand a chance. Big Telecom is already pulling its strings to nip it at the bud and retain the status quo to continue deepening its pockets at the expense of your hard earn dollars.
This is why it’s so important for people to speak out, and we’d like to thank all of you who took the time to endorse our petition at: https://act.openmedia.org/PolicyDirection
Together, we’ll make sure this policy stands a chance to fundamentally change the way the CRTC approaches its decisions and put affordable, competitive connectivity at the forefront.
Thanks again for speaking up OpenMedia community! Stay tuned. You can view our petition cover letter below.
