Industry Canada’s broadband plan will still leave rural Canadians struggling to catch up
Anderson continued: “The CRTC recently sent a letter to telecom giants expressing concern that the companies will not meet their August 2014 deadline to service 272 communities across Canada. Currently, the telecom giants have only reached 60% of the agreed upon communities using funds collected explicitly to deliver Internet services to rural and remote communities. If we’re relying on these same Big Telecom giants for our digital strategy, then we have to face a simple fact: we will keep playing catch-up with the rest of the industrialized world. Every community and service provider should be entitled to apply for these funds.”
