This is what our end-of-year drive is all about.

Today we kick off our annual end-of-year monthly donors drive. Before I get to why monthly supporters are so important to our success, I’d like to start off with a good-news story that is a perfect example of the work we do here at OpenMedia: 

Earlier this year, we found ourselves in a make-or-break hearing fighting for Internet choice rules to ensure community members in Canada have access to independent services and lower prices for super-fast fibre Internet. 

Our opponents across the room were dozens of very well-paid lawyers from Big Telecom. 

By any conventional measure, the odds were against us. Yet we beat Big Telecom’s expensive hired guns and won our case.

We beat the odds and won because over 30,000 community members spoke out in a multitude of ways, and we amplified your voices. It just wasn’t possible for decision-makers to ignore you. 

Wins like this simply wouldn’t be possible without a committed group of monthly supporters who choose to give us the stability and resources we need to amplify your voices and win.

We’ve set an ambitious but achievable goal of 500 new monthly supporters for this December allies drive, because with your support, I know we can achieve even bigger wins. 

If we reach our monthly supporter goal, we’ll be able to invest in team capacity, make much-needed improvements to our online tools, and be ready to immediately respond to new threats when it matters most.

From governments to massive companies, I know we’re up against some powerful forces. But I’m confident that with the community on our side, we will win out.
