Media Advisory: OpenMedia.ca Releases Names of MPs Standing With Canadians Against Warrantless Online Spying

The full list of Pro-Privacy MPs and party breakdown can be found through the OpenMedia.ca tool here: http://openmedia.ca/WithCanada

While no Conservatives have signed up as Pro-Privacy MPs to date, three Conservative MPs— John Williamson, David Tilson, and Rob Anders—have spoken out against Bill C-30. OpenMedia.ca hopes that the dissent demonstrated within Parliament and across Canada will encourage these and other Conservative MPs to stand with Canadians on this issue. Eight in ten Canadians oppose the collection of our private information without a warrant.

BACKGROUND:
The StopSpying.ca campaign is supported by a group of public interest organizations, civil liberties groups, businesses, and concerned academics that have come together to encourage the government to reconsider "Lawful Access" legislation. The group points out that this type of legislation enables warrantless surveillance that is invasive, excessive and costly.

Over 135,000 people have signed the StopSpying.ca petition or sent a message to their MP at http://openmedia.ca/stand, and tens of thousands have joined the conversation through the Twitter hashtag #TellVicEverything.

OpenMedia.ca is a grassroots organization that safeguards the possibilities of the open and affordable Internet. The group works towards informed and participatory digital policy.
