Dozens of community events are taking place across Canada this Saturday May 30 to #RejectFear and #StopC51

Just a few days before the final vote on Bill C-51, everyday Canadians want to take a stand against this reckless, dangerous and ineffective bill. That’s why dozens of community-organized events are taking place across Canada tomorrow (Saturday), in the third round of nationwide protests. They range from rallies taking place in a number of major cities, to smaller outreach events and petition drives. Many of these are planned as intimate local events, as Canadians reach out to their neighbours and local communities to warn them about how this legislation will affect our everyday lives.

Here’s a full list of the events we’re aware of - just click through for further details on activities taking place in your local area:

This shows just how unpopular Bill C-51 has become - a strong majority of Canadians now oppose what experts have called the “Secret Police” bill.

The events follow months of major public backlash against the unpopular legislation. More than 234,000 Canadians have already signed our petition at StopC51.ca,  written letters to local papers, and inundated MPs and Senators’ offices with emails, letters and phone calls. We couldn’t be more grateful for the support, and it comes at a crucial time only days before the final Senate vote. That’s why it’s never been more important to speak up!

There are a number of things you can do to help make tomorrow a success:

  • Attend your local event and bring your family and friends! Don’t forget to spread the word about it beforehand to everyone you know on Facebook and Twitter.

  • Sign our StopC51.ca petition and use this new tool to send Senators a strong message: we’re trying to get as many Canadians as possible on board, and the more people who speak out, the more powerful the message will be. You can also download our ready-to-print petition here (PDF), and check out these simple guidelines to help you collect signatures in your local community. We’ve even built a tool to make it easy for you to add the signatures you collect at OpenMedia.ca/PetitionDrive

  • Post pictures from your event to Facebook or Twitter using #StopC51 - we’ll be collecting the best of these photos and sharing them with our whole online community.

It’s time for the government to show they can listen to Canadians by scrapping this bill. On Saturday let’s send them a message that they can’t ignore!

And, of course, this is all thanks to you - none of this would be possible without the tireless efforts of each and everyone of you, helping to make this campaign as effective as it can be.

Let’s keep working together - and let’s keep speaking up Canada!
