Vancouver Observer nominated for three Canadian Online Publishing awards

From the Vancouver Observer, a network member of OpenMedia.ca:

September 28, 2010 – The Vancouver Observer is a finalist for Canadian Online Publishing Awards in three categories: "Best article", "Best overall site" and "Best design." Among the judges are online media directors from New York Magazine and Esquire Magazine. They identify the best in writing, design, ideas and multimedia projects from Canadian publication websites.

The VO's submission for Best Article is “Lost Canadians,” a 12-part investigative series focusing on the legislative injustice that may outlive a number of its victims. “Lost Canadians” reporters Megan Stewart and Darren Fleet are VO interns and graduates of UBC’s School of Journalism. The VO website was designed by Emily Carr University of Art +Design student Lorea Sinclair.

“I’m so proud of the many dedicated young and not so young journalists and writers, designers and photographers, and other contributors who have made the Vancouver Observer such a vibrant platform for local news,” said Linda Solomon, VO’s founder and publisher. “A strong media is vital for a strong democracy, and digital media like the VO now stands side-by-side with traditional forms of media, celebrating the free society we live in, and protecting it.”

The VO joins CBC, The Toronto Star and other large media corporations as finalists in competition for excellence in these categories.
