Prevented Telus/Mobilicity takeover is welcome news, but more govt action needed to level playing field and ensure wireless choice

Affordable, independent providers are struggling because of years of a history of regulatory coddling of Big Telecom, says OpenMedia.ca

Anderson continued: “While I’m glad Industry Minister James Moore listened to Canadians and didn’t cave to pressure from Telus, he needs to do much more to ensure all Canadians get the wireless choice and lower prices they deserve. The government has committed to providing lower prices and great choice but this year we’ve seen price-hikes and Canadians have less choice after Telus took over Public Mobile. It’s past time to open the networks so that Canadians can access independent providers. Right now old-fashioned rules mean the Big Three are allowed to block many Canadians from independent providers - James Moore needs to fulfil his promises and take action to lift that blockade.”

Over 60,000 Canadians - including dozens of leading innovators and entrepreneurs - have spoken out via OpenMedia’s telecom actions at http://DemandChoice.ca and https://OpenMedia.ca/gatekeeper
