OpenMedia.ca on ex-Commish Francoise Bertrand: Industry too influential on CRTC

"Francoise Bertrand's statement to the Canadian Press today served as a perfect example of the CRTC's bias toward big industry interests," said OpenMedia.ca's national coordinator Steve Anderson. This was in response to the former CRTC Chair's denunciation of government intervention in the CRTC's recent usage-based Internet billing decision.

The decision was contested by the nearly half-million Canadians who signed the Stop The Meter petition, as well as many independent ISPs including Teksavvy, Primus, and Acanac.

Bertrand's current position on the board at Quebecor, the media group that owns the major ISP Videotron, demonstrates that the CRTC is too closely tied to Big Telecom.
