FreshMedia to host a live national Twitter conversation for Remixology event

Vancouver, BC– Twitterers just may be the talk of the town at FreshMedia’s first monthly REMIXOLOGY event. On Wednesday, August 18th, a series of talks and networking events for arts, media, technology and social change makers will take place at the W2 Storyeum Salon on 151 West Cordova.

Titled ‘Rethinking Cooperative Media’, this REMIXOLOGY event will feature a dialogue to be moderated by the Vancouver Sun's Dig Life columnist Gillian Shaw, on the topic “Toward Cooperative Media Making: How can professional and citizen journalists collaborate?”

The discussion won’t be closed to those who can’t make it in person – an invitation to participate using Twitter, a free online social networking service, has been extended to people across the country. From coast to Canadian coast, members of the public will make their voices… er… tweets heard. Those interested can tune in and participate here: can tune in at 9:30pm EST, 6:30pm PST here: http://openmedia.ca/Remixology or http://freshmedia.me

The REMIXOLOGY series will run each month, gathering media professionals, social media experts and social change-makers to share new ideas for remixing Canada’s media system. The series aims to promote dialogue about collaboration among arts, media, technology, not-for-profit, journalism and social change communities. At the August 18 event, Twitterers’ 140-character are expected to play a role in reshaping the way participants think about the potential of citizen-led communication.

This month’s REMIXOLOGY will also feature a dialogue-stimulating presentation from Kris Krug, acclaimed local photographer and social media expert. Kris will share his photos from a recent trip to the Gulf of Mexico, where he covered the BP disaster through TEDxOilSpill.

“This is an exciting time for media innovation in Canada,” said Beyond Robson Editor and Fresh Media co-founder Kat Braybrooke, “and Vancouver’s receptive enthusiasm for new ideas gives me a lot of hope for the potential of REMIXOLOGY at this point in our history.”

Remixology will take place at the W2 Storyeum Salon on 151 West Cordova from 6:30 – 8:30 PM. Participants are encouraged to make a $5 donation. A portion of registration proceeds will be donated to the BP cleanup effort. For more information, or to register, visit http://remixology.eventbrite.com/ .
