A non-profit group fighting for better Internet access calls new Telus fee hikes for texting to the U.S. and internationally “price gouging.”

Lindsey Pinto of Vancouver-based Openmedia.ca said Tuesday that Canadians suffer from some of the highest cellphone rates and texting costs in the world.

“Canadians need more choices, Canadians need more affordable rates for cellphones,” said Pinto.

“More or less, this is price gouging,” she said of the May 1 increase. Read more »
