When a student at Yale University volunteered to be a guinea pig, his Control, Privacy, and Technology class found out. "Gavin" surrendered control of his smartphone, Facebook and Gmail accounts to help them find out which would be the most revealing.

They found a wealth of information on his work and academic history, interests, relationships and political affiliations, the most sensitive and personal of which was in his email. After combing through his online life they published a summary of their findings in The Gavin Project.
