Thousands of people across New Zealand gathered and marched in protest Saturday against the controversial, secretly negotiated proposed trade deal between 12 nations, the Trans Pacific Partnership (TPP).

In Auckland, protesters first gathered in a park, "Waving banners and placards and listening to speeches about how the deal would erode the country's sovereignty and disadvantage low-income earners," according to Radio New Zealand (RNZ) reports.

The crowd moved down a street led by a giant wooden horse, to the offices of the United States Consulate General.
